Hozugawa Boat Ride
2019.11.1
April 10, 2016
Tsuwano Town, located in the southwest area of Shimane Prefecture, is affectionately known as “Little Kyoto.” This old castle town is home to Washihara-Hachimangu, a shrine considered the guardian diety of Tsuwano Castle. In addition to its beautiful cherry blossoms in spring and maple leaves in fall, this shrine is famous for its "yabusame shinji" horseback archery event. The event, held on the second Sunday in April, takes place on the only remaining original yabusame riding ground in Japan.
At the annual spring event, visitors can enjoy watching skilled archers dressed in traditional costumes shootat three targets while racing down the track on horseback.
