The largest annual festival of Ishikawa Prefecture, the Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival is held in commemoration of Lord Maeda Toshiie’s entry into Kanazawa Castle in June, 1583. The main attraction of this festival is the gorgeous parade, featuring an actor who plays the role of feudal lord Toshiie Maeda, followed by more than 2,000 locals in traditional costumes. The parade extends from Kanazawa Station down the main street for 3.1km, eventually arriving at Kanzawa Castle to much fanfare. Visitors won’t want to miss other festival events, which highlight the local traditions of Kanazawa, some of which have been passeddown for 400 years. Events include a lantern-floating ceremony with lanterns made out of local-made fabric,a traditional Noh performance and tea ceremonies.
