Hozugawa Boat Ride
The World of Yukata
Kinosaki is a historic gem of Japan with a beautifully preserved landscape and 7 public hot springs, or sotoyu, each with its own unique atmosphere. The streets are lined with traditional wooden ryokans and filled with the bright colors of yukata, the formal dress in Kinosaki. Running through the town is the Otani River which is lined with shops and arched bridges, taiko bashi. Even into the night visitors can enjoy the hot springs, as many are open till 11pm, and take beautiful evening strolls down Yunosato Dori Street that is filled with shops, cafes and bars which are also open late till 10pm.
Each season brings a new charm, in spring there are cherry blossoms and paper lanterns, in summer comes fireworks, in autumn there are clear skies and moon viewings, and in winter breathtaking snowscapes. Something not to be missed is the Autumn Festival, which is held annually on October 14th and 15th and is an exciting and gorgeous display of Japanese culture. Another key point of interest is the Onsenji Temple, founded in 738 and designated as the town’s guardian temple. The temple is located halfway up Mount Daishiyama and can be reached by cable car. The view from the mountain top is spectacular and has been awarded 1 star in the Michelin Green Guide Japan. Step back in time to a world of yukata, ryokans, and hot springs.
